Common Chiropractic Issues: Disc Pain

By our team of licensed chiropractors·Updated · 2 min read

Disc Pain

Spinal discs are the rubbery pads between each of your vertebrae. They also act as the ligaments that hold your spine together. Needless to say, your spinal discs are pretty important. Your spine houses your spinal cord, which is something you don’t want to get injured. Especially considering that your spinal cord and brain together make up your central nervous system.

Common disc pain centers around issues such as bulging discs, herniated discs, and disc protrusion. These conditions can cause pain in several ways: One, it can cause pain central to the area of injury. Second, it can press against a nerve, sending shockwaves of pain to other areas of your body. The second issue is actually very common.

Common issues with disc pain

Some people experience a nagging pain underneath their shoulder blade. Some will experience pain in their arms or legs. Others may experience frequent headaches. These are just some of the examples of how a disc injury can affect you. There are many more complex issues that can also arise from disc pain. However, any one of these painful episodes can ultimately affect other areas of your life including work, family time, walking your dog, and sleep.

Finding relief from disc pain

Living with pain should never be accepted. Especially when chiropractic therapy may offer relief. Your goal for recovery should always be to determine which type of disc injury you are suffering from, and which treatment will give you the best results possible. A qualified chiropractor can assess the type of disc pain you are suffering from and help determine what the best options are for you.

If you think a disc is behind your pain, start with an exam at our Huntington Beach chiropractor or the clinic nearest you. We check reflexes, strength and sensation, tell you whether imaging makes sense, and explain options such as spinal decompression before you commit to anything.
